POSITION TITLE: Emergency Medical Technician – BLS Provider

REPORTS TO: Operations Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Operations

POSITION SUMMARY

Emergency Services Solutions (ESS) is seeking highly qualified and motivated people to join our team. ESS contracts with volunteer rescue squads or local government organization to provide pre-hospital, 911 contract staffing. We are currently seeking highly qualified BLS and ALS providers to join our latest contract at Ridgeway District Rescue Squad (RDRS). The selected candidates will work rotating twelve hour shifts out of the RDRS building located in Ridgeway District of Henry County. This is a unique opportunity to work in a 911 only environment, providing high quality patient care and services.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Responsibilities

  • Maintains high standards for health, safety, welfare, and ethical behavior
  • Adheres to all policies of agencies, institutional and regulatory bodies
  • Conducts him/herself in a professional manner
  • Supports, interprets and complies with the philosophies of the company
  • Maintains own required certification and licensure, including current Virginia vehicle operator’s license

Primary Responsibilities

  • Achieves and maintains standards of patient care and clinical performance in accordance with local and Commonwealth protocols; clinical care and medical control directives will be in the best medical interest of the patient and will be confined to the scope of practice for the level of certification as defined by the State of Virginia
  • Loads and transports patients from a point of pick-up to the vehicle and from the vehicle to the point of destination; this includes lifting patients to and from backboard, stretcher, or equivalent, and maneuvering patients through hallways, up and down stairways, and up and down vehicle/handicap ramps as required
  • Is responsible at all times for the care and transportation of patients treated and for the accurate documentation and timely completion of all required paperwork
  • Operates all company assigned vehicles under control at all times and in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances governing vehicle operation; must also comply with approved company policy regarding safe and efficient vehicle operations
  • Is responsible for appropriate responses to and compliance with all Communications Center directives
  • Follows direction of management and/or senior ranked personnel
  • Maintains established standards of conduct at all times when working with physicians, nurses, public safety agency officials, other affiliated health care professionals and members of the general public
  • Is responsible for the proper care, use, and appearance of his/her assigned vehicles and equipment, including complete and accurate equipment inventories
  • Is responsible for appropriate radio transmissions
  • Reports to assigned area on time and when scheduled to work as assigned with other employees; must work in a respectful manner with assigned employees
  • Immediately reports to the Operations Supervisor or designee, any malfunctions of and/or damage to any equipment, whether or not the medic was using or operating the equipment at the time of the damage or malfunction; responsible for accurate documentation of said incident within appropriate time frame
  • Immediately notifies the on-duty Operations Supervisor, or designee, and the Communications Center of any incident not within normal or required operations; responsible for accurate documentation of said incident within accepted time frame
  • Adheres to all policies and directives set forth in the Company’s SOP manual and Employee Handbook and other policies promulgated by the company
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by management

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess and maintain current certifications in the following:
  • Commonwealth of Virginia Emergency Medical Technician - Basic 
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Approved Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
  • Other certifications as required by the Virginia Office of EMS or Agency
  • Have high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Possess and maintain current Virginia Driver’s License
  • Maintain motor vehicle records in compliance with company policy
  • Be adept with the use of map books, and be able to receive and follow written and/or verbal instructions appropriately
  • Be able to maintain a positive attitude under a variety of conditions, and relate appropriately to a variety of individuals.
  • Be physically able, as determined by examination determining fitness, to perform job functions as described
  • Pass a fingerprint background check performed by VHD.

Physical Requirements

Occasionally: Smelling

Frequently: Lifting 200 pounds, kneeling, stooping, bending. Leaning, flexibility, multiple physical activities performed at the same time (carrying multiple equipment while pushing on pram)

Constantly: Hearing/listening, clear speech, simple touching, walking (inside and outside), pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, driving ambulance, seeing

Mental Requirements

Occasionally: Reading (simple and complex), writing (complex), memorization, analyzing, math skills (simple)

Working Environment

Occasionally: Works alone, inside, confined areas noise other hazardous conditions (human excrement, blood, urine, mucous, tissue, asbestos)

Frequently: Electrical equipment.

Constantly: Works with others, face-to-face contact, verbal contact with others daily, works outside shift work, extended hours
